Artist Statement
Through abstract line figures and marks I explore interaction in my paintings. My work relies on intuitive drawing and the creation of a line language.  In my paintings, the line is the basic tool for communication both comic and contemplative; the oil paint is a supporting element rather than the main attraction. It is this spontaneous drawing and pattern-making that interests me as an artist.
The basic figures and marks were created originally in 1983 and have “lived” in various forms -at times confined to only my sketch book while I explored more abstract painting. Through my current process I create the figures and the accompanying marks as a raised pattern. The paintings can be read by hand as if they were Braille art.
With this work I see myself and the world through the lens of minimal marks. It is my objective to shun detail and ornamentation to allow the energy and spirituality of the figure to come alive.
